February 12, 2017: A TV5 Millennium Moment

There are eleven more ads today, from September 4-8, 1999 editions of The Blade, plus two Random Pages gallery additions. The first one is a Monday, 9/6/99 Peach Section story by Chris Borrelli, "NFL TV Rules Border on the Absurd." The other one is a Wednesday, 9/8/99 front page story by Lawrie Mifflin, "Viacom to Acquire CBS for $37 Billion." There are six additions to the Buckeye CableSystem gallery starting with a Saturday, 9/4/99 ad, in the Sports Section, for ESPN Game Plan on Impulse Entertainment. Next are two 9/4/99 Peach Section ads, the first ad for "P.U.N.K.S." on Disney Channel, the second ad for Sci-Fi Channel's Three Dog Night of "Atomic Dog," "The Fury Within," and "Cujo." There's also a Sunday, 9/5/99 full-page TV Week ad for Chicago Cubs baseball games on WGN, "Barney's Great Adventure: The Movie," on TMC, "Star Wars" on TBS, and "Hamlet" on TNT. There's also a Monday, 9/6/99 ad, in the Peach Section, for Labor Day Movies on TBS, including "Space Jam" (Michael Jordan) and "Back to the Future." And there's a Tuesday, 9/7/99 ad, also in the Peach Section, for A&E's Biography of Kurt Russell. There are three additions to the ToledoVision 5 gallery starting with a Saturday, 9/4/99 ad, in the Peach Section, one of two for their 10th Anniversary (Get to Know Us Better!...Visit us on www.tv5toledo.com...Get the latest!), followed by a Sunday, 9/5/99 TV Week ad for three shows on The WB, 7th Heaven, "All Dogs Go to Heaven," Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Consequences," and Dawson's Creek, "Reunited." There's also another 9/5/99 TV Week ad, "A TV5 Millennium Moment" about the Toledo Museum of Art (TV 5 host, Teresa Pollick). The last two ads today are additions to the Other Vintage ads gallery. There's a Tuesday, 9/7/99 full-page ad for "Truth: The Anti-Drug," an "Office of National Drug Control Policy/Partnership for a Drug-Free Ohio and America" ad. It's followed by a Wednesday, 9/8/99 full-page ad for Gander Mountain's Toledo grand opening (You're the kid. We're the candy store. Only with tents and lures and camo and stuff.) By the way, all of the "TV Week" ads today were scanned from an actual newspaper "TV Week" in my collection.

February 5, 2017: Don't Touch That 'dile!

You'll find eleven more ads today, from the August 28 - September 3, 1999 issue of TV Guide Magazine and from August 31 and September 1 & 2, 1999 editions of The Blade, plus one Random Pages gallery addition, a Tuesday, 8/31/99-Wednesday, 9/1/99 TV Guide Magazine page with some 1-2:05 am listings and a "close-up on a classic" for the Mary Tyler Moore episode, "Chuckles Bites the Dust." There's one addition, from TV Guide, to the Ohio & W. Pennsylvania gallery, a Monday, 8/31/99 full-page ad for Divorce Court on WOHL-TV 25 in Lima. There are four additions, from The Blade, to the Buckeye CableSystem gallery starting with a Tuesday, 8/31/99 ad, in the Peach Section, for Bravo Profiles: Grace Kelly. Next is a Wednesday, 9/1/99 full-page ad, on page 26, for Buckeye Express (How fast is Buckeye Express High-Speed Internet Service? It's Blazing!) There's also a 9/1/99 Peach Section ad, for Powerpuff Girls, on Cartoon Network, followed by a Thursday, 9/2/99 ad, also in the Peach Section, for Alice on TNN. There are four additions, from TV Guide, to the Vintage Cable Ads gallery, too, starting with a Sunday, 8/29/99 full-page ad for "Croc Week" with Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, on Animal Planet (Don't Touch That 'dile!) There's another 8/29/99 full-page ad for the Showtime Original Picture, "Strange Justice." followed by one more 8/29/99 full-page ad, for the HBO special, Cher: Live in Concert. There's also a Thursday, 9/2/99 ad, for the Turner Classic Movies 44-movie festival, Hollywood Heavyweights, featuring "Somebody Up There Likes Me" and "Gentleman Jim." The ad's picture was of Sylvester Stallone and Talia Shire from "Rocky." The last two ads today are additions to the Other Vintage ads gallery. The first one, from TV Guide is a two-page color ad for Dish Network. There's a larger version, here. It's followed by a Thursday, 9/2/99 ad, from The Blade, announcing the 12th annual Blade Corporate Spelling Bee at the Radisson Hotel. I seem to be missing a couple of TV Guides from my collection (September 4-9 and 11-17, 1999 issues) so more ads, only from the online archives of The Toledo Blade, are on the way...

January 29, 2017: Now on 13 ABC

There are eight more ads today, from the August 21-27, 1999 issue of TV Guide Magazine and from August 24, 26 & 27, 1999 editions of The Blade, plus one Random Pages gallery addition, a Thursday, 8/26/99 TV Guide page with some 8-8:30 pm listings and a "close-up" for the premiere of WWF Smackdown! on UPN. There's one addition, from The Blade, to the Channel 13 gallery, a Monday, 8/24/99 ad, in the Peach Section, for Live with Regis & Kathie Lee, "Now on 13 ABC." There's also one addition, from TV Guide, to the NBC gallery, a Saturday, 8/21/99 ad for the movie, "The Bridges of Madison County" (Clint Eastwood, Meryl Streep). There are three additions, from The Blade, to the Buckeye CableSystem gallery. The first one is a Thursday, 8/26/99 ad, in the Peach Section, for R.E.M.: This Way Up, on Bravo. The second one is a Friday, 8/27/99 half-page ad, on the Weather Page, for the HBO special, Cher: Live in Concert. There's also another 8/27/99 ad, in the Peach Section, for the movie, "Private Parts," on USA (Howard Stern), The rest of today's ads are additions, from TV Guide, to the Vintage Cable Ads gallery. There's a full-page color ad for the VH1 movie, "Ricky Nelson: Original Teen Idol," followed by a Saturday, 8/21/99 full-page ad for the HBO original movie, "Introducing Dorohty Dandridge" (Halle Berry). Today's last ad is a Sunday, 8/22/99 ad for E! True Hollywood Story, "Bewitched" (Elizabeth Montgomery). January 15, 2017: Its Only Logical Home

There are ten more ads today, from the August 14-20 & 21-27 issues of TV Guide Magazine, and from August 16 & 18-20, 1999 editions of The Blade. There are two additions, in color, from TV Guide, to the PAX gallery, the first page of a four-page fold-out ad (...It's premiere week! PAX 2000...) followed by pages 2-4, for Destination Stardom, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Twice in a Lifetime, It's a Miracle, and Little Men. A larger version of the second ad can be found here. There are also two additions, from Peach Sections in The Blade, to the Buckeye CableSystem gallery, a Thursday, 8/19/99 ad for Star Trek, with Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner, on Sci-Fi Channel (...its only logical home...), and a Friday, 8/20/99 ad for Turner Classic Movies' Summer of Darkness. Next are two additions, also from Peach Sections in The Blade, to the ToledoVision 5 gallery, both for their baseball coverage. There are two side-by-side Monday, 8/16/99 ads, for a Toledo Mud Hens game, against the Indianapolis Indians, and six Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds games. There's also a Wednesday, 8/18/99 ad, for the Mud Hens-Indians game (See the NEW Buckeye CableSystem Technology on Display...).
