Of course CKLW's downfall was the CRTC's mandate for "Canadian Content" which pretty much started the roller-coaster downhill fall for the Big 8.

One of CKLW's biggest advertisers was Merollis Chevrolet and that jingle that stuck in one's mind like a craw! Merollis was blessed by the world's greatest salesman, Joe Girardi, who could close a deal on air conditioners to eskimos in Alaska, he was that phenomenal. In 15 years at Merollis he sold some 13,000 cars. He also wrote four books which, not surprisingly, were best-sellers.
